Vansickle Cemetery
(Marion Co, Warren Twp)
2700 N. Franklin Road
Indianapolis, IN
GSMC Code: WR022   WPA Code: No. 119

SHAARD# CR-49-101.

Note: Not the same as the Vansickle Farm site near US52.
Map coordinates show the access road from Franklin Road. The cemetery is about 500 feet to the west. This cemetery is on 12 acres of land that is remaining from a much larger original farm. One half acre in size with 45 known burials dating from 1831 to 1903. It is maintained by the Warren Township Trustee and was restored in 2005 by John Walters of Graveyard Groomers.
At that time, the property was still owned by the Vansickle family, although they were considering selling the property and relocating the cemetery.
From talking with Mr. Vansickle, it seems the cemetery was not only a family one, but a community and church cemetery. It was located less than a mile from Old Bethel Methodist Church at 21st Street and Franklin Road; at least one of the founders of the church is buried here.
Members of at least 15 families are here.  Many were pioneer families and first deed holders of land. With 5 Civil War burials, plus James White, founder of Lawrence & John Stoops, founder of Old Bethel Methodist church.
A burial list was compiled by Mrs. Herbert E. Brown, Terre Haute, Indiana, and presented to the Indiana Historical Society on November 18, 1950. A copy is found in the Indiana State Library. Data entry for the Genealogical Society was done by Cheryl Dixon. According to that list, it is only a partial listing. Additional burial information comes from verified information on Find-A-Grave, from "The History of Warren Township" (published by Warren Central HS) and from burial information provided by the Warren Township Trustee's Office.
GSMC has a copy of a cemetery reading, local area plat map, and photos of grave stones during the cemtery restoration. We recommend a trip to our library for more information.
