Hendricks County Probate Records Work Session (GSMC Program)
10:00 am to 4:00 pm - Plainfield Public Library (1120 Stafford Rd., Plainfield IN 46168)
Want to get a glimpse at what life was like in the 1800's? Help unfold and organize some of Hendricks County's probate records.
Since the Indiana Genealogical Society began this project, almost
3,000 probate records have been worked on, and over 700 records have been placed online (www.indgensoc.org), with many more in
progress.
You don't have to have a family connection to Hendricks County
- working with these records can be addictive! Volunteers have
found receipts from doctors for making house calls, orders for
tombstones (including the inscriptions to be written on them),
and even original documents for Civil War service and a land
purchase from the federal government.
You can stay for as little or as long as you like - lunch is on your
own.
Please register with the library – register online through the
calendar of events on the library’s website (http://
www.plainfieldlibrary.net/events.html) or by contacting the
library’s Indiana Room - phone (317) 839-6602 extension
2114.
