Presenter: Teresa Baer, Indiana Historical Society
Learn to write about your ancestors and your research journey in this workshop focusing on good storytelling and essential writing skills. Teresa Baer of the Indiana Historical Society (IHS) Press will begin the session with an open discussion about the nature of history: what it is and how to write it. Baer will then consider the various audiences you may be writing for and the purpose for different types of pieces. The workshop will cover print and online publication and different types of writing, including biography, family narrative, memoir, and transcripts. The second half of the session will cover the nuts and bolts of communicating effectively, touching on grammar, word choice, organization, illustrations, and documentation, followed by tips for drawing conclusions from your research. There will be ample time for Q&A, so bring your specific questions.
