Monthly Program

Historic Irvington
Please join GSMC at our monthly program. The topic for June is the historical neighborhood of Irvington.  Irvington is an Eastside neighborhood bounded roughly by 10th street, Arlington ave, Brookville Rd and Emerson Ave.  It was founded in the 1870s and annexed into Indianapolis in 1902.  It was the former home of Butler University. Our speaker, Steve Barnett will discuss the Irvington Historical Society's efforts in preserving  Irvington's historic sites and remembering the people who contributed to their history  - the Benton House, the Kile Oak, and the Bona Thompson Memorial Center.  In addition, he will talk about the Wilson-Parker Pioneer Cemetery and efforts that are being made to preserve that site.
