Lutheran Cemetery
(Marion Co, Pike Twp)
4100 W. 62 St.
Indianapolis, IN
GSMC Code: PK079      WPA Code: No. 85
Also known as New Augusta, Old Glory, or Salem Evangelical Lutheran.  Commonly referred to as Salem or Lutheran Cemetery.  It was established as Hopewell, circa 1836.
 SHAARD# CR-49-73.
GENERAL CONDITION:  This cemetery is still active and well maintained.  There are probably 300-350 stones, most of them new and in good condition. Worn and broken stones were at a minimum.  The older stones are on the east end of the cemetery.  Also on the east end is evidence of several flat stones that have been partially overgrown by grass.  Care should be taken when doing this area.
DIRECTIONS FROM DOWNTOWN:  Take I-65 north from the downtown area.  Get off at the Lafayette Rd. exit.  At the bottom of the exit ramp turn right (north).  Go north on Lafayette Rd. about 1 mile to 56th St.  Turn right (east) on 56th St.  Go about 1-1/2 miles on 56th St. to Guion Rd.  This is an intersection with a stop light.  Turn left (north) on Guion Rd. and go about 1 mile to 62nd St., another intersection with a stop light.  The cemetery sits on the southeast corner of this intersection.
This cemetery was read by the Genealogical Society of Marion County in 1997, and published in both a softbound book and CD titled "Cemetery Readings of Pike Township."   The burial records we show came primarily from these readings.
Attached is the burials list: 1997 Burial list (less the unnamed graves).
