Debra Foster, Regent of the Caroline Scott Harrison Chapter, NSDAR, will be here to discuss the criteria for joining these lineage societies and learn about the wealth of free genealogical information available on the National Daughters of the American Revolution website that you can access.

Memories of WW II Era and a Family of Military Service  (GSMC Program)

Come to the GSMC Library to meet our speaker, or hear the program on Zoom, as Mildred Rebennack a very young 96 year old, recalls her memories of working at Naval Avionics during WWII.  She retired from there in 1990 as the First Lady Electroplater.  Mildred was included in a book, published in 2000 as one of Indiana's Trailblazing Women, and listed again in 2001. She is part of a family with a long line of military service in different wars and conflicts.

Jeannie Regan-Dinius, Director of Historic Preservation, Crown Hill Heritage Foundation, will be here to discuss a combination of topics about Crown Hill Cemetery. These topics include: the cemetery in general, cemeteries that were moved there, a new project regarding scanning documents and a new phone app that will aid in locating a loved one.

Carolyn Niemantsverdriet will talk with us on where immigrants were processed before Ellis Island.  Ellis Island did not open in New York Harbor for more than 115 years after the colonies declared independence from England.  During thos years when and where did the government collect data on the new immigrants? Or did they?  What do you know about Ellis Island and its precursors?

Please join us at our Annual Holiday Program. Bring a guest!  We have Show & Tell (bring an item you would like to show and talk to the group about) or Tell A Story (could be a recent success in your genealogy or find), First Families of Marion County and Civil War Families Induction, and Recognition of our Genealogy Angels for 2023.  Steve Barnett will present a short program on "Civil War Camps in Indianapolis".  
 
Stay around after the program for light snacks, conversation with others and a door prize drawing (have to be present to win).. Water/soft drinks and coffee will be provided.
