Newby is located on the east side of Spring Mill Road at 79th Street. (Directions: On Spring Mill Road at the 79th St. stop light, turn East onto blacktop road and continue back to the historical sign. The graveyard is East, 100 feet.)

Newby Cemetery was established in 1851, and deeded to Washington Township in 1999. The actual number of burials, between 1822 and 1894, is unknown. A listing of 23 names, along with birth and death dates is available at the Trustee’s Office. Several stones were unreadable. A brief history of the Newby and Bowen family is also on file. A survey is on file.
A reading, showing 37 names, was compiled in 2004 by Floyd & Betty Newby Baldwin; Submitted by Bob Alloway, Co-compiler. (See "Original Cemetery page" below.) Burials listed here are based on the list below and information from GSMC member Rick France who read and photographed the cemetery in 2006. (All the photos posted for this cemetery are Rick's & are used with permission. The notes shown on the individual burials are also Rick's.)
Note: The GSMC library has an outstanding notebook on the restored Newby Cemetery assembled by several contributors. We recommend family historians visit and study that book.
